Mavin Records have premiered the video for “Sare”, the catchy afropop single off Ayra Starr’s self-titled debut EP.
Directed by Lekan of Savant Collective, the visuals provide a colorful interpretation of the track, which samples the iconic “Orere Elejigbo” by the Lijadu Sisters. Starting with a tour of a futuristic museum dedicated to Ayra Starr’s life, the video devolves into the present, maintaining a comparison between past, future, and present. This interesting storyline gives the video a sci-fi feel throughout its running time, keeping in terms with the themes of dreams and fantasy sprinkled all over the song.
Asides from a matching theme, the art direction is also superb, with fascinating wardrobe and set choices. The colours come alive in a way only true contrast can make, and as an ode to young love and the angst that comes with it, the video features beautiful choreography, highlighting the potential of dance to pass across a message.
Coming on the heels of her performance at Oraimo’s “The Showcase”, the “Sare” video is another reminder of her sheer talent and star power. We cannot wait to see what else is in store for us from Arya Starr. Watch the video below.
