Two months ago, Atlanta-based rapper, $odaman shared his latest single, “Heroic” almost a year after the release of $odacity, his debut album. Following “Money Conversations” and “A.N.C”, singles released earlier in the year, he maintains his momentum with the melodic trap number, which sees him at his best, as he delivers sturdy verses and catchy ad-libs over Kappceo’s bubbly production. Last week, he shared the official video for the snappy record.
Directed by TooSam, the slightly hypnotic visuals opens with a captivating artistic shot of the Nigerian-American rapper. He’s then seen burning a spliff while he energetically raps braggadocious and gripping lines about peeping his haters, making money, and putting his team on. The visual effects and multi-colored expressive cutaways are incredibly captivating and fun. $odaman seems to be jumping between different worlds as he’s initially seen sitting on a kitchen slab and the living room of a casual apartment, then he’s immediately transported to a blue-themed room covered with mirrors. Shortly after, he is out in the open as he’s lit up in a red-hot glare that only serves to accentuate his standout performance against the backdrop of the night sky. The varying scenes between the contrasting times of day and the mood created in each cutaway are reflective not only of the message of the song but also of the creativity of the storyboard.
$odaman is slowly proving he is a creative force to be reckoned with. With equally captivating visuals for earlier singles like “Ferris Wheel” and “Ain’t Nothing Change”, the video for “Heroic” is another brilliant addition to his growing oeuvre.
